Payment Methods

Our goal is to make managing your student loan account and keeping it current as easy as possible. We offer convenient, flexible payment options:

Direct Debit

Direct Debit is a free service allowing you to authorize an automatic electronic payment for your account on your due date each month using your American banking institution’s routing and account numbers.

  • The transaction happens automatically each month, so payment is always on time, keeping your account in good standing.

  • You may suspend a payment by calling us three business days before the scheduled payment date.

  • If payment is denied due to insufficient funds three times in a calendar year, your account becomes ineligible for the service.

  • You must complete, sign, and submit the Direct Debit request form (340 KB PDF) to authorize the service.

Direct Debit for Defaulted Borrowers

Borrowers whose loans are in default status can now sign up for Direct Debit by completing the Default Direct Debit Authorization form (463 KB PDF).

Online Payments

Our Online Payment feature is a free service, offered through our Website, allowing you to authorize a one-time electronic payment on your account using your American banking institution’s routing and account numbers.

  • You must login to the secure Account Access area to make a payment.

  • This is a one-time payment; using it does not authorize an electronic payment every month.

  • You control the date the transaction occurs and can set a transaction up to 60 days in the future when you know the funds will be available.

  • You decide if the payment is divided among all loans on the account or applied to an individual disbursement.

  • You can use a different saving or checking account each time you use the service.

If you’re paying by check, please review our helpful hints for check payments to ensure your payment is processed as efficiently as possible.

Be sure to include your Account number or Social Security Number. If you are a co-signer or endorser, please include the borrower’s account number.

Automated Telephone Payment System

Our Automated Telephone Payment System feature is a free service, allowing you to authorize a one-time electronic payment on your account using your American banking institution’s routing and account numbers.

  • You have the choice to make a payment by using either our touch-tone service, or our new voice response technology.

  • This is a one-time payment; using it does not authorize an electronic payment every month.

  • You control the date the transaction occurs and can set a transaction up to 60 days in the future when you know the funds will be available.

  • The payment is divided automatically among all loans on the account. (If you wish to target the payment between individual disbursements, please use our Online Payments option.)

  • You can use a different saving or checking account each time you use the service.
