What Personal Data AES/PHEAA Protects

AES/PHEAA will encrypt any email that contains the following types of information, which we deem nonpublic personal information that must be protected:

  • Social Security numbers
  • Driver's license numbers
  • Credit reports and scores
  • Loan applications
  • Loan account numbers
  • Loan amounts/balances
  • Loan payment histories
  • Payoff amounts
  • Credit card numbers
  • IRS W2, 1040, and 1099 forms
  • Bank account numbers
  • Immigration documents such as I-9s
  • Unlisted addresses and phone numbers
  • Other "dollars and dates" information
  • Employee ID numbers
  • Date of Birth
  • Mother's Maiden Name
  • Employer ID number
  • Digital or Electronic Signatures
  • Passport number
  • Insurance number

AES/PHEAA is not required to protect personal data which is lawfully made "publicly available." In other words, information may not be protected when it is widely distributed in media like telephone books, newspapers, and websites that are available to the general public.
