Enrollment Status

In School or Returning to School

QuestionI am currently making payments on my loans. Can I postpone my payments when I return to school? Answer

Most FFELP loans are eligible to be deferred while you are in school. Your school may provide enrollment information to the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) or National Student Clearinghouse (NSC), which we receive electronically. Your school may also send us your enrollment information by mail or fax.

If you have a Private Education (Alternative) Loan, please review the terms of your promissory note to determine if you may postpone your payments if you return to school.

QuestionI’m still in school. Will my payments continue to be deferred over summer break? Answer

If you have not already used your grace period, it will start when you begin your summer break. You do not need to make any payments during the grace period, and we will postpone your payments when certification of your fall enrollment is received and processed.

If you already used your full grace period and started making payments on your loans, you may be eligible to postpone payments, but you must request to do so; we will not automatically postpone payments for you. To request that we postpone payments over your summer break (or during a winter break):

  • You must have been continuously enrolled the entire previous semester.
  • You must return to school at least half time for the next semester.
